  • REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS TO SHORTLISTING PROCESS

  • REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1974

  • All posts involving direct contact with vulnerable children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions ad convictions can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service website and in the Recruitment and Selection Guidance Notes.

It is an offence to apply for a role engaging in regulated activity with children if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

As part of our duty to safeguard students, we need to check whether shortlisted candidates are barred from working with children, or whether they have convictions that would make them unsuitable to work with children or in the role they have applied for.

Shortlisted candidates will be issued with a self-declaration form for completion and return when invited to interview.

  • ONLINE SEARCHES FOLLOWING SHORTLISTING

(to be signed by all applicants)
  •

In line with the statutory guidance document 'Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023)' the academy will conduct online searches after the shortlisting process for any candidates who accept an invitation to interview.

The purpose of the online search is to uncover any information that may suggest the candidate is:

    • a potential safeguarding risk
    • their appointment may damage the reputation of the academy
    • they are unqualified for the role they have applied for

No recruitment decision will be made solely on the basis of an online search and all relevant information uncovered will be discussed with the applicant at interview.
